Macie Atkinson, 9, participates in a catcher’s drill, Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023, at a youth softball camp hosted by D-BAT Baseball and Softball Academy in Fort Smith. General Manager Ty Kilinc said the academy opened five months ago and is one of 155 D-BAT facilities around the world, adding that this was the first all-softball camp at the Fort Smith location. With 22 young ballplayers between the ages of 5-14 participating, Kilinc said he expects to host many more softball camps in the future, some of which will take place inside the modern indoor facility or outside on D-BAT’s soon-to-be-built turf field. “D-BAT” stands for discipline, belief, attitude and traditions.
