Autumn Joyce, 10, retrieves her arrows on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at an archery summer camp hosted by the Janet Huckabee Arkansas River Valley Nature Center in Fort Smith. After hosting a one-day, all-ages archery camp last week, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission educators Danielle Simmons and Kendra Ingle returned Wednesday to teach the sport to about a dozen kids ages 7-11, specifically the differences between compounds, longbows, recurves and crossbows, safety measures, the 11 steps to success and, of course, how to shoot. After learning the basics, participants took turns practicing their form and aim using indoor targets. The camp continues today for kids ages 12-15.
